Tool Trims Mod (1.21.7, 1.20.1) expands Minecraft’s customization system by bringing armor-style trimming to your tools and weapons. How to use:

Toolsmithing Table

  • The Toolsmithing Table is a custom block used to apply trims to tools and duplicate tool trim smithing templates. It features a GUI similar to the regular Smithing Table and can be crafted with 2 copper ingots and 4 wood planks.
  • When crafting, the result icon will appear as a Knowledge Book, but upon clicking it, you’ll receive the actual Toolsmithing Table.

Tool Trim Smithing Templates

  • Tool Trim Smithing Templates are special items used at the Toolsmithing Table to apply decorative trims to weapons and tools. Each template is tied to a specific structure in the world where it can be discovered.

  • If you’re playing with the data pack version (1.17–1.19), note that the structures where templates are found may vary slightly.

  • All templates can also be duplicated using the Toolsmithing Table.

Tool Trimming

Weapons and tools can be trimmed by using a Toolsmithing Table. There are 10 different materials you can use to apply trims:

  • Amethyst Shard
  • Copper Ingot
  • Diamond
  • Emerald
  • Gold Ingot
  • Iron Ingot
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Netherite Ingot
  • Quartz
  • Redstone Dust

When combined with the tool trim smithing templates, these materials allow for over 1,200 unique trim combinations.

Shiny Tools Advancement

“Shiny Tools” is a new advancement that is unlocked when you successfully obtain a trimmed tool using the Toolsmithing Table.

Commands

  • /function tooltrims:custom_items
    Spawns a chest containing all Tool Trim Smithing Templates and a Toolsmithing Table for quick access.
  • /function tooltrims:load
    Reloads only the Tool Trims Data Pack. Useful if the data pack isn’t functioning correctly or needs a refresh.
  • /trigger update_tool
    If you’re using an older version of the data pack, this command allows you to update a previously trimmed tool by holding it in your main hand.
