One thing that always annoyed me in older versions of Minecraft was how crazy expensive combining a lodestone could be requiring a netherite ingot felt overkill. Thankfully, New Lodestone Recipe Mod for Java (1.21.4 → 1.20.1) fixes that by bringing back a much simpler recipe.
What’s Different?
- Backports the 1.21.5 lodestone recipe into older versions now requires an iron ingot instead of netherite.
- No pointless resource sink just a logical, more accessible approach to using lodestones.

Why It Matters to Players
As someone who sets up lodestone-based navigation in different bases, having to use netherite always felt wasteful. Switching to iron restores lodestone as a practical tool without breaking the early-to-mid-game rhythm.
And I’m not imagining this Reddit players had the same reaction:
“Its utility is mainly early-game, when you’re traveling and bringing home animals and loot. The change in recipe makes absolute sense to me.”
“It is also a lot cheaper to make now as of 1.21.5.”
There’s a real appreciation for restoring functionality in a more resource-friendly way which this mod delivers perfectly.
